West Country Modern is the imprint and gallery of photographer and image maker, Jethro Marshall.

Documenting the landscape of the South West of England he takes an anti bucolic, pro rural approach of celebrating the mundane, utilitarian and municipal beauty of countryside environments.

The work often takes the form of typologies, with specific subjects captured in series and often rendered as beautiful limited edition books. More recently exhibitions and prints have been added as the photography grows from page to wall.

Setting the images in a larger architectural and cultural context, writers play an important role in contributing introductory essays and captions to the visuals. Journalists including Jan Carlos Kucharek, Rosalind Jana, Mark Hooper, Artist Tania Kovats and Critic Sam Jacobs have all written eloquently through the seven books to date.

The first series of books have been designed with Sam Blunden, an expert editorial designer and art director with a passion for print.
